Roller blind operation problems

Roller blinds are a popular window covering choice due to their sleek design and ease of use. However, like any other household item, they can experience operational problems over time. Addressing these issues promptly is crucial to ensure the smooth functioning of your blinds and prevent further damage.

Prioritising safety is crucial since unsecured chains or cords can provide a strangulation risk. Choose roller blinds with child-safe features, such as Cord Tensioners or motorised versions, if you have young children in your home to prevent danger. You should start making routine checks of your roller blinds in order to proactively identify any operational problems or safety risks and take immediate action to fix them.

Fixing stuck or jammed blinds

Dealing with stuck or jammed roller blinds that won’t roll up or down can be frustrating, but with the right approach, you can often resolve the issue without the need for professional assistance. We'll help you identify and fix jammed blinds, guide proper bracket attachment, and stress safety precautions.

Check Roller blinds and Bracket Alignment: When fitting your roller blinds it is important to make sure the roller blinds is being attached to the bracket in the correct position. Always attach the brackets vertically to the pin end of the blind. This alignment ensures that the blinds roll up and down smoothly and prevents unnecessary stress on the mechanism. If the pin end is positioned horizontally in the bracket this will cause the chain to jam which could cause damage to the chain mechanism.

Bracket Installation

Our roller blinds are provided with a universal bracket which is designed to provide versatility and ease of installation for your blinds. It offers the flexibility to fit the blind in various ways, including face fix, top fix and side fix orientations.

  • In a face-fix installation, the bracket is mounted on the wall or window frame in front of the window recess.
  • In a top-fix installation, the bracket is attached to the top of the window recess or the ceiling, allowing the blind to hang from above.
  • Finally when fitting side fix the bracket are screwed into the side wall of the recess, this is recommended if the width you gave us was taken right at the top of the recess.

Changing the Roll of your Roller Blind

A ‘standard’ roll is typically used with blackout blinds when they are mounted outside of a recess, the standard roll meaning that there is less light leakage. A ‘reverse’ roll will allow clearance behind the fabric, for window handles and other obstructions, if you’re mounting the blind inside a recess.

How to change the roll-

Step 1: Lower the Blind

  • Start by pulling the back of the chain gently to lower the blind.
  • Continue pulling until the metal tube inside the blind is exposed.

Step 2: Reverse the Roll Direction

  • Keep pulling the chain, and you'll notice that the blind starts to raise again.
  • As it raises, the fabric will now roll up over the front of the roller tube, reversing the direction of the roll.

Step 3: Note the Chain Direction

  • Be aware that changing the roll direction will also alter the direction you use to operate the blind.
  • With the fabric rolling up over the front of the tube, you will now use the front of the chain to lower the blind and the back of the chain to raise it.
